THE WEREWOLF UNDER HER BED
(Copyright 2024 by Bonnie Vanak)

To her surprise, a pile of palm branches was sitting on the swale in front of her house, waiting for bulk pickup. A man came out from her backyard, carrying fronds.

Tall, muscular, wearing a white T-shirt drenched in sweat that fitted his impressive biceps and trim abdomen, he was handsome and sexy in a very male way. Dirt-stained jeans hugged his long legs and oh-so-fine ass. He had shoulder-length dark hair and a firm jawline. Couldn't be older than 30.

Suddenly she realized it was the guy she'd almost hit, or had hit, this morning. More than a little alarmed, she got out of her car.

"Um, excuse me?" she called out.

He dumped the foliage and came toward her. "It's all done in the back. I trimmed the trees and picked up the dead branches. You also have a dying traveler's palm. I cut it down before a storm blows it down."

"Conner Ryan." He stuck out a hand that looked big as a dinner plate.

Gingerly, she placed her palm into his. Though he looked like he could crush cars with his fists, his grip was respectful and gentle, though he held her hand for a few seconds more than politeness required.

"I cleaned up that mess for you." The man nodded at her backyard neighbor.

"That was awfully sweet of you. Thanks. You didn't have to do that."

Was that a flash of gold in his green eyes? Surely not a growl rumbling from deep in his throat.

"I did. I heard she was hassling you. It wasn't right. I detest bullying mortals like that."

Erica laughed. "Good thing she's mortal and not immortal."

An odd look overcame him. His gaze flicked to the fence. "You won't have to worry about her bothering you anymore."

Amused she shook her head. "What did you do, threaten to beat her up?"

"Not exactly. I showed her my teeth." He flashed a wide grin at her, displaying white, even teeth.

Nice teeth. The other parts of you are equally nice...oh no, don't go there, Erica.
